Coffee Frappuccino® Blended Beverage
This blended iced drink comes with either a coffee base or a coffee-free crème base. Choose by caffeine first, because any name with Crème skips the coffee. The cards below show current flavors, and the table explains each flavor family so you can compare before you order.

A Frappuccino is a blended iced drink made from ice, milk, a flavored base and a topping of whipped cream. It sits somewhere between an iced coffee and a milkshake, and it is the most dessert-like thing on the drinks board.
Starbucks Frappuccinos come in two bases. One is made with coffee and the other leaves coffee out, so you can pick a caffeinated treat or a milky one. This page explains both, walks through every flavor and tells you which popular orders are real menu items and which are only custom builds. For the bigger picture, see the complete Starbucks menu.
The difference comes down to one ingredient. Coffee Frappuccinos are blended with a coffee concentrate, so they carry caffeine. Crème Frappuccinos skip the coffee and use a milky base, so they have little to none. Both get ice, milk, flavor and whipped cream. The extras on top, such as drizzles, crunchy toppings and cookie pieces, are added after blending, which is why you can ask to leave any of them off.
Shoppers often search for the second kind by its cream name, and the menu spells it with an accent as "Crème." Same idea, different spelling. If you cannot tell which base a drink uses, look at its name: "Crème" in the title means no coffee.
| Base | Caffeine tendency | Example flavors | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coffee | Moderate, roughly 90 to 110 mg in a Grande | Caramel, Mocha, Mocha Cookie Crumble, Caramel Ribbon Crunch | Tastes of coffee behind the sweetness |
| Crème | None to very little | Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Orange Cream, Lavender | A common pick for kids and caffeine avoiders |
What makes the texture so smooth? The blend usually relies on a thickening agent such as xanthan gum, which keeps the ice and liquid from separating. That is why the drink stays thick and spoonable for so long, and why you cannot recreate it by pouring coffee over ice. The base is also sweetened, so even a plain coffee version lands closer to dessert than to a morning coffee.
Caffeine figures are published estimates and differ by a few milligrams between sources. Check the nutrition page in the app for your exact drink and size.
A crème drink is the right call when you want the cold, creamy texture without the coffee. Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Lavender, Pistachio, Horchata and Orange Cream all come in crème form, and each one is sweet, light in color and topped with whipped cream.
They suit kids, evening drinkers and anyone who wants dessert without a caffeine buzz. If you change your mind midway, you can ask to add a shot of espresso to a crème drink, which turns it into a mild coffee blend. The Vanilla Bean flavor page shows the simplest crème drink in detail.
Eight flavors have their own page on this site. Each page goes deep on ingredients, caffeine, sizes and ordering, so the notes here are short.

How should you choose? Start with your mood. If you want chocolate, go with Mocha or Mocha Cookie Crumble. If you want something buttery and sweet, pick Caramel or Caramel Ribbon Crunch. If you want no coffee at all, pick Vanilla Bean or Strawberry Crème. Each flavor page lists the exact ingredients, so you can compare before you order.
Smores and Unicorn are limited-time drinks, so you may not find them on today's board. Java Chip is a special case. It was one of 13 drinks Starbucks removed in March 2025, so it may only appear if it returns. The core drinks now are Caramel, Mocha, Caramel Ribbon Crunch, Vanilla Bean and Strawberry Crème, though even those can vary by store.
Think of the whole lineup as six families. Use this as a quick index.
Not every drink is listed in every store. The app shows what your nearest location can make today.
Chocolate is the biggest family, and the drinks inside it are easy to mix up. The Double Chocolaty Chip Crème was the coffee-free chocolate-chip drink, built from chocolate flavor, chips, milk and ice. Mocha is the plain chocolate-and-coffee blend. Java Chip is mocha with chocolate chips added. Mocha Cookie Crumble adds cookie pieces on top.
The chocolate comes from two places. Mocha sauce gives the smooth, liquid chocolate flavor, while the chips add small bits you can feel as you sip. A drink with chips tastes richer and has more texture, and it usually carries a little more caffeine than the same drink without them, since chocolate adds a small amount. Both it and Java Chip were among the 13 drinks Starbucks removed on March 4, 2025, and our delivery-app data does not list them, so confirm in the app before you plan on either.
If you like the idea of chocolate with no coffee, read the Java Chip details and then ask whether a store can build a crème version. For the plainest version, the Mocha Frap guide explains exactly what goes in the cup.
To tell whether a chocolate drink has coffee, read the name. "Mocha" and "Java Chip" mean coffee is in the blend. "Crème" or "Double Chocolaty Chip Crème" means it is not. When you order, say the base out loud, as in "a Grande Java Chip" for the coffee drink or "a Grande Double Chocolaty Chip Crème" for the one without. That one sentence saves a lot of confusion at the counter.
Frappuccinos are not the only cold drinks that go through a blender. In some regions people say "frappe" for any blended coffee, and in that loose sense the starbucks frappe menu is simply the full lineup of Frappuccinos, coffee and crème. The drinks below are different. Starbucks has offered blended Refreshers, such as a blended Strawberry Lemonade, in warm months. These swap coffee and milk for fruit flavor and lemonade or water, which makes them lighter and less creamy.
Here are blended drinks at Starbucks compared with a standard Frap:
| Drink type | Base | Texture | Caffeine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Frap | Milk, ice and coffee or crème base | Thick and creamy | Moderate or none |
| Blended Refresher | Fruit flavor, ice and lemonade or water | Icy and light | Low, from green coffee extract |
The key difference is how the drink feels. A Frap coats your mouth, while a blended Refresher feels more like a slushy. If you are choosing between them on a hot day, the fruit drink is lighter and the creamy one is richer. Availability changes by season and store, so look in the app instead of assuming. If you want a fruit drink over ice with no blending, the Refreshers page covers the shaken versions, and the energy options and caffeine page covers the higher-caffeine ones. For a view of every family, see the all Starbucks drink families guide.
Caffeine depends on the base, then on size. Coffee drinks carry caffeine from the concentrate in the base, while crème drinks carry almost none. Published Grande estimates for coffee drinks land between about 90 and 110 mg, with sources differing by flavor and by a few milligrams.
| Drink (Grande, 16 oz) | Typical caffeine |
|---|---|
| Coffee | About 95 mg |
| Caramel | About 90 mg |
| Mocha | About 110 mg |
| Java Chip (when available) | About 110 mg |
| Any crème flavor | 0 mg or very little |
Size matters because a bigger cup holds more blended base. A Tall has the least caffeine and a Venti the most, though the jump between sizes is smaller than the jump in a brewed coffee. For comparison, a Grande brewed coffee runs around 310 mg, so a coffee blend is gentler than a regular cup. A Tall carries less than a Grande, and a Venti carries more. Adding an espresso shot adds about 75 mg. If you want it caffeine free, order a crème drink and do not add shots.
Frappuccinos come in three sizes: Tall (12 oz), Grande (16 oz) and Venti (24 oz). Short is not offered for blended drinks. A Tall is plenty for a sweet treat, and a Grande is the usual order. The full cup size chart shows every size across the menu. Because blended drinks are served in clear cold cups with a dome lid for the whipped cream, the Venti is the large 24 oz cold cup, bigger than a hot Venti.
You can change most parts of the drink:
Fans use the nickname "fraps," and the starbucks menu fraps are easy to adjust once you know the levers. Start with one change, taste it, then tweak next time.
A coffee Frap is blended with a coffee concentrate, so it carries caffeine, usually around 90 to 110 mg in a Grande. A crème Frap has no coffee and uses a milky base instead, so it has little to no caffeine. Both get milk, ice, flavor and whipped cream, and the name tells you which one you are ordering.
The count changes all the time. A recent look at our delivery-app data shows roughly fifteen blended drinks across the coffee and crème groups, including seasonal ones like Pumpkin Spice. Some flavors, such as Smores and Unicorn, come back only now and then. The app shows what your store offers today.
Coffee versions do, and crème versions mostly do not. Published Grande estimates for coffee blends fall around 90 to 110 mg, and crème blends are at or near zero. Adding an espresso shot raises the total by about 75 mg. Check the nutrition details in the app for your exact drink and size.
Frappuccinos come in Tall (12 oz), Grande (16 oz) and Venti (24 oz). Short is not offered for blended drinks. Most people order a Tall or Grande. A Venti gives you more of everything, including sugar and caffeine, so it suits sharing or a long afternoon better than a quick stop.
You can swap the milk for oat, almond, coconut or soy. But whipped cream contains dairy, so ask for none, and some sauces, chips and toppings may contain milk too. Check the ingredient list in the app and tell the barista about any allergy so they can take care with the blender.
An iced coffee is brewed coffee poured over ice, thin and often unsweetened. A Frap is blended with ice and a sweet base until it is thick, then topped with whipped cream. One is a drink and the other is closer to a milkshake. The iced version has more coffee flavor, and the blended one has more sugar.
No. The Oreo drink is a custom order that fans share online, not an official menu item. A barista can try to build something similar from chocolate chips, mocha drizzle and a crème base, but results vary and some stores may decline. The closest official drink is the Mocha Cookie Crumble.
Go for a crème drink. Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Orange Cream and Lavender are the usual picks because none of them contains coffee. Vanilla Bean is the mildest, Strawberry is fruity and Orange Cream tastes like a creamsicle. All of them are topped with whipped cream, so skip it if you want less sweetness.
Yes. Bottled Frappuccinos are made through a partnership with PepsiCo that began in 1996 and are sold in many grocery stores and some Starbucks locations. Flavors and stock vary by store, and they are a different product from the cup version, with their own taste and nutrition.
You can lower it, but not remove it. Ask for fewer syrup pumps, no whipped cream, no drizzle, nonfat milk and a smaller size. The blended base itself is usually sweetened, so a blended Frap is never fully sugar free. If low sugar is the goal, an iced Americano or unsweetened tea is a better fit.
