Taco Bell Y2K Menu and Other Discontinued Throwback Items
Two nostalgia drops brought old items back for a limited time: a five-decade test and a later lineup of five 2000s favorites. Some retired items have returned, others are gone. The table below shows each one, and the cards suggest current items that come closest.

Retired favorites and swaps today
The Y2K menu brought five 2000s favorites back in September 2025, and it was one of two nostalgia drops in as many years. This page lists what was on both of those menus, which discontinued items have returned, which are gone for good and what you can order today instead. For everything currently on sale, see the current Taco Bell menu.
Is the Quesarito Back? Status of Other Fan Favorites
The Quesarito returned on December 18, 2025, for a limited time while supplies lasted, at a regular price of $4.99. It is a burrito wrapped in a grilled quesadilla, filled with seasoned beef, seasoned rice, chipotle sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, melted cheeses and Nacho Cheese sauce. It had last been on menus in March 2023.
Because it was a limited run, check the app before you plan a trip. You can read more in the Quesarito guide.
Is the Quesarito Back? Status of Other Fan Favorites
| Item | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Quesarito | Limited return | Back in late 2025 for a limited time |
| Enchirito | Limited returns | Left menus in 2013, with brief comebacks since, including 2023 |
| Volcano Taco | Limited return | Debuted in 2008, briefly returned in 2023 |
| Beefy Crunch Burrito | Limited return | Came back in 2023 after about 12 years |
| Mexican Pizza | Back on the menu | Removed in November 2020, returned May 19, 2022 |
| Spicy Potato Soft Taco | Back on the menu | Pulled in 2020, returned with potatoes |
| Grilled Steak Soft Taco | Gone | Removed in 2020 |
The Mexican Pizza is the clearest case of fan pressure working. It left the menu in 2020 and came back in 2022 after a loud campaign. That history is a reason many fans think any popular item has a chance.
Taco Bell Throwback Menu FAQs
What was on the Y2K menu?
It had five items: Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos, the Double Decker Taco, the 7-Layer Burrito, the Chili Cheese Burrito and the Caramel Apple Empanada. Each cost $2.49 or $2.99 at launch. A $9 box celebrated 20 years of the Crunchwrap Supreme.
When did the Y2K menu come out and when did it end?
It launched on September 9, 2025, with early dessert access for Rewards members from September 2 to 8. The Taco Bell Y2K menu end date was never fixed in launch coverage. Items were limited and sold while supplies lasted, so check the app for your location.
Is the Y2K menu coming back?
No return has been announced. Taco Bell has run nostalgia drops in consecutive years, which suggests more are possible, but nothing is promised. If another one arrives, expect a limited run with a different mix of items and possibly a different era. Follow the app and Rewards alerts for news instead of relying on rumors.
What is the Decades menu?
It is a nostalgia lineup that brings back one item from each decade: the Tostada, Green Burrito, Meximelt, Beef Gordita Supreme and Caramel Apple Empanada. It launched on August 15, 2024, at select Southern California restaurants, with a nationwide rollout planned later that year.
Has the Quesarito returned to Taco Bell?
It came back on December 18, 2025, for a limited time at participating locations, at a regular price of $4.99. Because the run was limited, it may not be available now. Check the app for your restaurant before you go.
Will the Meximelt come back permanently?
There is no announcement of a permanent return. It left in 2019, returned briefly in the 2024 Decades test and has stayed popular with fans ever since. For now, the Mexican Pizza is the closest regular item, according to Time Out, and a Soft Taco with extra cheese and pico gets you partway there.
What was on the original Taco Bell menu?
When the first restaurant opened in Downey, California, in 1962, the menu had tacos, burritos, tostadas, Chiliburgers and frijoles. Every item cost 19 cents. The Chiliburger later became the Bell Burger and then the Bell Beefer.
What items has Taco Bell discontinued?
The list is long. It includes the Meximelt, Enchirito, Bell Beefer, Double Decker Taco, 7-Layer Burrito, Spicy Tostada, Grilled Steak Soft Taco, Loaded Grillers and Volcano Taco. Some have since returned for limited runs, while others remain gone, so check the status table above for each item.
What can I order instead of a discontinued Taco Bell item?
Try the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito in place of the 7-Layer Burrito, the Mexican Pizza for the Meximelt, the Crunchwrap Supreme for the Bell Beefer and Cinnamon Twists for Cinnamon Crispas. These are close but not identical swaps.
Why does Taco Bell keep removing menu items?
Taco Bell says it cuts items to simplify the menu, speed up service and make room for new products. Underperforming items are retired, while popular ones tend to stay. Fan demand can bring items back, as it did with the Mexican Pizza in 2022.
How do I know if a throwback item is available at my Taco Bell?
Open the app, choose your restaurant and search for the item. If it does not appear, your location does not have it. Limited items sell while supplies last at participating restaurants, so call ahead if you plan a special trip, and check again later in case stock is refreshed.
