Double Stack™
The size ladder runs from the one-patty Jr. burgers to the three-patty Dave's Triple, so count patties first and then decide on bacon. The Double Stack is the budget beef pick and the Son of Baconator is the medium bacon pick. The cards below show both, plus combos.

Son of Baconator® Combo
A Wendy's burger is built on a square patty of fresh beef, and the menu climbs from the one-patty Jr. Hamburger to the three-patty Dave's Triple. The size you pick matters more than the name, because patty count decides how much food you get.
This page explains the size ladder, the bacon burgers, what goes into the patties, combos, customizing and value. To see every other category, check the complete Wendy's menu by category.
Five burgers carry bacon: the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, Bacon Double Stack, Son of Baconator, Big Bacon Classic and Baconator. They differ in patties, bacon amount, cheese and sauces, so the table lines them up.
| Burger | Patties | Bacon | Cheese | Sauces and toppings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger | One small patty | Applewood smoked bacon | American | Lettuce, tomato, mayo |
| Bacon Double Stack | Two small patties | Applewood smoked bacon | Cheese | Ketchup, mustard, pickle, onion |
| Son of Baconator | Two patties | Plenty of Applewood smoked bacon, four strips per Wendy's | American | Ketchup, mayo |
| Big Bacon Classic | Quarter-pound patty | Applewood smoked bacon | American | Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, ketchup, mustard, mayo |
| Baconator | Two patties, half-pound total | Six pieces | American | Ketchup, mayo |
The Baconator and Son of Baconator are the most bacon-forward. The Son of Baconator is a scaled-down version of the Baconator, with two smaller patties and four strips of bacon. See the Baconator burger details if you want the full-size version.
The Big Bacon Classic is the odd one out. It carries a lot less bacon than the Baconator but adds lettuce, tomato and pickle, so it eats like a classic burger with bacon on top. Read the Big Bacon Classic page for more. Bigger versions with two or three patties are also on the delivery menu.
The patties are made from fresh, never frozen beef, and they are cooked fresh on the grill at the restaurant. Wendy's says the fresh beef claim applies in the contiguous U.S. and Alaska, plus Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the UK and some other markets.
All the hamburgers on the menu use it, from the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger up to the Baconator. Beef is shipped in refrigerated trucks and monitored for temperature on the way to restaurants, which is the point of the "never frozen" line.
Patty size changes by tier. A Dave's Single holds about a quarter-pound of fresh beef before cooking, and the Dave's Double carries two of those. The Double Stack uses two smaller patties, reported at about 2 ounces each, so it adds up to roughly a quarter-pound in total. Jr. burgers use one small patty.
That affects how you choose between a Single and a Double. If you care about flavor and char, the larger patty on a Dave's burger gives you more beef per bite. If you care about cheese and toppings, the smaller patties on a Double Stack give you more layers. Cooking happens at each restaurant, so freshness depends on how busy the grill is when you order.
Founder Dave Thomas chose a square patty to set the brand apart and signal quality. Wendy's says the corners hang over the bun so customers can see the beef before the first bite.
That is why a Wendy's sandwich looks different from a round-patty burger. The patty is wider than the bun at the corners, and the overhang is deliberate. It is also practical, since a square patty fills the bun and shows off the beef at a glance. You will see the same shape on every size, from the Jr. burgers to the Dave's Triple.
Wendys menu burgers range from about 250 calories for a Jr. Hamburger to more than 1,100 for a Dave's Triple. Numbers vary by source and menu update, and our delivery data lists prices, not calories, so the table shows figures from a 2024 dietitian-reviewed ranking.
| Burger | Approximate calories |

| Jr. Hamburger | 250 |
| Jr. Cheeseburger | 290 |
| Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger | 370 |
| Double Stack | 410 |

Treat these as a guide, not a promise. Other sources list slightly different figures for some burgers, and recipes change. For current numbers, use Wendy's own nutrition tool, or read the full nutrition and calories guide.
The largest burger is the Dave's Triple by patty count, with the Big Bacon Classic Triple and the Baconator also at the top of the delivery menu. The smallest is the Jr. Hamburger, a single small patty with no cheese.
By calories, the order follows the same pattern: the Dave's Triple tops the list, then the Baconator, then the Dave's Double. See the Dave's Triple page for what the three-patty burger adds. Check the delivery menu for your restaurant, since the lineup can change. If you want the biggest burger for the money, compare the Dave's Triple with the Big Bacon Classic Triple, because the Triple versions cost the most per sandwich but can cost less per patty than buying two separate burgers.
You can change most burgers by removing toppings, adding cheese or bacon, or switching sauces. The Wendy's app and most counters let you do this at the point of order, and add-on charges vary by restaurant.
Common changes include no pickles, no onion, no mayo, extra bacon or extra cheese. If you want more beef, you do not need an add-on: move up the size ladder, from a Single to a Double or a Double to a Triple, or choose the Big Bacon Classic Double or Triple.
Some restaurants may serve a burger without the bun, but it is not a standard menu item, so ask before you assume. Treat any "bowl" or lettuce-wrap request as a special order.
Allergens deserve a quick check. Buns usually contain wheat, cheese contains milk, and sauces may contain egg or soy. For gluten and ingredient questions, see the gluten-free guide and the nutrition page. If you want chicken instead, read about chicken sandwiches and nuggets.
Dave's Double and the Baconator ranked among the three most ordered entrees in Wendy's 2023 Unwrapped report, alongside chicken nuggets. Popularity shifts by year and region. For a first order, either of those two is a safe pick if you want a full-size burger.
A Dave's Single has one patty, a Double has two and a Triple has three. A Single holds about a quarter-pound of fresh beef before cooking, so a Double has about half a pound. Beef weight is measured before cooking, so the cooked burger weighs less.
Fresh. Wendy's uses fresh, never frozen beef for its hamburgers in the contiguous U.S. and Alaska, plus Canada and a few other markets. Patties are shipped refrigerated and cooked on the grill at each restaurant. The claim covers the beef, not every ingredient, so toppings and buns follow normal supply rules.
Founder Dave Thomas picked a square patty to stand out and show quality. Wendy's says the corners hang over the bun so you can see the beef before you take a bite. The shape stays the same across the Jr., Dave's and bacon burgers, so you will recognize one on sight.
Size and bacon. The Baconator has two square patties for about half a pound of beef and six pieces of bacon. The Son of Baconator has two smaller patties and four strips. Both use American cheese, ketchup, mayo and a potato bun, so the flavor is similar but the portion is smaller.
The Jr. Hamburger is the cheapest burger on the delivery menu, starting at $1.99. It is a small fresh-beef patty with pickles, onion, ketchup and mustard on a toasted bun, with no cheese. Add cheese and it becomes the Jr. Cheeseburger. Prices vary by restaurant and delivery apps run higher.
Extra patties are easy: move up from a Single to a Double or Triple, or pick the Big Bacon Classic Double or Triple. No-bun requests are not a standard menu item, so availability varies by restaurant. Ask when you order, and expect that charges or limits may apply.
Often, yes. National Cheeseburger Day falls on September 18. In 2024, Wendy's ran a one-cent Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger with a purchase through its app from September 18 to 22. The offer changes each year and requires an account, so check the Wendy's app close to the date.
Yes. Delivery apps usually set higher prices than the counter, and fees can apply. Burgers from wendys start at $1.99 for the Jr. Hamburger on the delivery menu we track, but your restaurant may charge less. Order in the Wendy's app or at the counter to compare, since prices vary by location.
By the 2024 ranking in the table above, the Dave's Triple has the most at about 1,160 calories, followed by the Baconator at about 960 and the Dave's Double at about 860. Figures vary by source and update, so confirm current numbers in Wendy's nutrition tool before you order.
